The Best Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serums Compared: These are correctly formulated by the best Vitamin C brands in the world!
So these products and brands i’m going to be talking about today have formulated their vitamin c in the right way they have followed the science they have respected this ingredient they have really brought out the efficacy and the power of a potent vitamin c serum hi everyone i’m julia i am the co-founder of the formula which is an online skincare boutique thanks
For joining me in part two of this vitamin c video so in this video we’re going to be comparing all of the vitamin c serums available on the formula we are going to talk about the specific lineup of vitamin c serums that have made it through my rigorous curation process so in part one we talked about what vitamin c can do for your skin a few issues and challenges
When it comes to its formulation and what to look out for when choosing and buying and parting with your hard-earned cash when it comes to a vitamin c serum so if you haven’t checked out that first video i definitely encourage you to check out part one first so these tick all of my boxes i have used them day in and day out for years there is definitely something
In here for everyone we’re going to be doing a comparison of some of the similarities and some of the differences and nuances between these vitamin c serums and today the product lineup is predominantly featuring ascorbic acid because that’s where the science is and that’s where a lot of the proven skin benefits lie i’m not saying that anything that’s not ascorbic
Acid is not worth it that is definitely not what i’m saying in terms of the studies and the science that we have behind a whole host of different vitamin c derivatives at this point we just can’t say with with the amount of certainty that we can for ascorbic acid what these derivatives can and can’t do for the skin but of course there are those out there that
Can’t tolerate this ingredient no matter what the percentage or what the ph is i do have an option for you guys for most people they find that the smell of ascorbic acid or their vitamin c serum either smells like hot dog water like kind of that meaty smell or it smells like metallic kind of like old coins um so leave a comment below as to which camp you guys
Are in what does it smell like for you if you’ve smelt it before please know that that is a good sign that you have selected a potent effective vitamin c serum it means that the brand has not added extra fragrance to try and mask it it means that there is a decent amount of vitamin c and most likely ferulic acid in there it means that your serum is going to do
Something for your skin so at this point you can tell i’m very passionate about my vitamin c serums i don’t want to be hearing any more complaints about the smell please just put it on your face with joy and follow it up with a nice smelling moisturizer burn a candle in the corner spray on your favorite perfume do what you’ve got to do but make sure that potent
Beautifully formulated vitamin c serum is hitting your face whether it smells like hot dog water or old coins or whatever please just use it the benefits are going to far outweigh the smell okay okay onto the product uh these are no particular order so the first one i’m going to talk about is the timeless twenty percent vitamin c e plus ferulic acid serum this
Is my holy grail vitamin c serum if you’ve experienced it you will know why it ticks the box in terms of the percentage it’s got a really nice high 20 which is the peak of absorption of vitamin c within our skin so it definitely ticks that box it’s compounded with vitamin e and ferulic acid which is the holy trinity of vitamin c and antioxidants so those three
Together work really beautifully it’s in a beautiful pump with an opaque plastic container so no complaints there it’s at a ph of 2.4 which is in a great ph range in terms of penetration and absorption through the skin it’s on the lower end meaning that it’s going to be very very effective at delivering that active ingredient through the upper layers of the skin
But because it is so effective at doing that it also means that it is a little bit irritating for a lot of people so bear that in mind if you have never used an active vitamin c serum before that this one is at the um at the more challenging end in terms of skin tolerance definitely not something i would start off with if i had sensitive skin and it’s probably
Something that you want to work up to using on a daily basis so start off slowly if you’ve never used an active ascorbic acid before i would not be starting off with this one unless you’re one of those people who is so certain that your skin can handle anything and everything that you throw at it i don’t think we should be freaking our skin out so just take it
Slow the texture is divine it is so thin and absorbs really really quickly and easily it sinks into almost nothing on the skin it layers so beautifully with other products in your routine i’ve never had it peel or ball up on me it sits really nicely under makeup sunscreen moisturizer all those other things so it is just it’s a dream vitamin c this one also comes
In a bigger size in a 120 mil size as well it’s great if you’re sharing it with someone if you want to take it down your neck and decollete and backs of hands i mean i i just i put this everywhere i love this product so much so if your skin can tolerate it go for it go for the 20 in terms of stability this is the longest lasting one that i have ever used so the
Period after opening obviously depends on where you’re storing it definitely keep it in the fridge but for me the timeless 20 always lasts a few weeks longer than any of the other brands it’s at a great price point for what you’re getting it’s got a nice short and sweet ingredients list there’s no surprises in here it’s it is basically what it says on the bottle
There’s also a little bit of hyaluronic acid in there for hydration and there’s also some panthenol which is vitamin b5 in there as well which is really nice so next up is the 10 version of the same timeless product so the 10 has the exact same ingredient line up it’s almost an identical formula except it has 10 of ascorbic acid instead of 20 also the ph is a tiny
Tiny bit higher meaning it’s not as tingly on the skin although they’re pretty similar so if you are trying to choose between the two of them if you’ve never used an ascorbic acid before definitely start off with this one the 10 concentration is a little bit lower and the ph is a little bit higher so that is going to just sway things in the direction of um being a
Little bit more gentle on the skin than the 20 percent timeless has done a great job with these vitamin c serums they have followed all of the science they’re formulated in such an effective way it’s super user-friendly and beautiful to work with so um i can’t recommend these enough next up we have the osteuticals 20 vitamin c serum it’s one of the first ascorbic
Acid products i ever tried and i realized straight away how awesome it was compared to everything else i had ever tried so this serum ticks a box for the percentage again it’s at the highest end the twenty percent so you’re going to get all those beautiful vitamin c benefits it also has vitamin e and fluorulic acid so it ticks off the holy trinity of antioxidant
Support it is in air proof and light proof packaging if you open up the components of this serum you’ll see that it’s in an airless bag sitting within the component so no air is getting in there it’s got five stars for packaging it’s at a ph of 2.9 so up a little bit higher than anything from timeless meaning it’s going to be a little bit more comfortable as it
Enters the skin it’s going to be less tingly and less chance of irritation um that ph is just a little bit closer to the skin’s natural ph so it’s not going to be quite as disruptive as it’s passing through the barrier but it’s still within that efficacious ph range which is at 3.5 or below it’s the easiest to apply the thing i love most about this is the texture
All the others i’m going to be talking about have quite a thin runny consistency this is a little bit firmer a little bit more viscous it can kind of hold its own shape it’s a thin gel texture so if you’re one of those people that really struggles with like pumping out a serum and having it run down your hands and and your wrists before you can actually get it on
Your face then this is the answer it’s beautifully spreadable and it just lets you get that nice even application across the face so the ease of use for this one is definitely a five star above all the other ones another feature of this one is that it contains next level antioxidants it is packed with some of the most potent antioxidant it goes far beyond the
Vitamin e and ferulic acid holy trinity situation it also adds fluoritan alpha lipoic acid and panthenol which is vitamin b5 these are all incredible antioxidants for the skin it also has some hyaluronic acid in there for plumping and hydration and it also contains visible oil which is derived from chamomile which is a really soothing calming ingredient next up
We have a geek and gorgeous sea glow so this one is really close to my heart i absolutely adore this brand and i’m so glad to see all you guys loving this product so much it is a 15 vitamin c serum so it’s just right at that level where it is able to offer the collagen boosting aspects of vitamin c alongside the brightening and the antioxidant ability so you’re
Getting all those great benefits without pushing it too far up so that 20 mark is going to be challenging for a lot of people’s skin this is a little bit gentler but you’re still getting all of those benefits so you’re making minimal sacrifices and you’re still getting all those great gains the amazing thing about this one is the price it is so affordable i can’t
Believe that geek and gorgeous have offered such a high quality effective product at this price point it is mind-blowing it’s actually affordable to repurchase on a regular basis it ticks the boxes for the holy trinity it’s got vitamin e and ferulic acid in it it has uv protected glass so it’s got light protected packaging it doesn’t have pump packaging it has a
Dropper i wish it had a pump but despite the fact it doesn’t have pump packaging it has an impressively long shelf life i find that this one lasts almost as long as the timeless one i can comfortably use up a bottle of this before it has oxidized it’s at a ph of 3.2 to 3.4 so again a little bit more comfortable still in terms of the tingle factor and the irritation
Upon the skin this is on the gentler end it’s still within that ph range of 3.5 or below which vitamin c needs to be at but it’s at the more comfortable end of that range personally i find this one is the most similar to the famous skinceutical ce for rolex serum it’s the most similar in terms of formulation and feel on the skin and also the packaging is the same
So it reminds me a lot of that one at a fraction and i mean a really small fraction of the price i think the skinceuticals one is over 200 here in australia please think long and hard before investing that kind of money into ascorbic acid it is a super cheap ingredient for brands to formulate with in terms of the raw ingredient the challenge is in the rest of the
Formulation in terms of stabilizing this ingredient and delivering it in an effective way this one also features a new generation solvent called dimethyl isosorbide so this solvent aids in the penetration and the absorption of the vitamin c and also in the solubilization of the ferulic acid it just helps all those ingredients to penetrate and be absorbed into the
Skin and helps that high amount of ferulic acid to be dissolved nice and evenly throughout the formula and lastly as promised this one is a bit of an anomaly i did promise something for those among you who might not be able to tolerate ascorbic acid for some people it’s just not a good fit whether that is your personal preference to just not be bothered with the
Whole refrigeration and the limited time frames that these often come with in terms of using it up before it expires or before it starts oxidizing if you just can’t be bothered with all of that and or you have super sensitive skin that can’t tolerate anything with a low ph or anything with a high percentage of actives then a vitamin c derivative is going to be
For you at this point we have one vitamin c derivative available on the formula it’s my favorite one it is the timeless hyaluronic plus vitamin c serum this serum is a triple threat and not only does it contain five percent of magnesium assortable phosphate which is a vitamin c derivative it also contains one percent of hyaluronic acid which we all know by now is
A beautiful humectant it plumps and hydrates the skin as well as a matrixyl 3000 which is a great peptide for restoring elasticity and pumping and helping with fine lines and wrinkles so if you’re looking for a all-in-one serum to kind of tick off all of your brightening hydration and skin plumping needs then this is definitely a great one to be adding into your
Morning and or evening routine the great thing about magnesium scorable phosphate is that it is stable up to a ph of seven so there’s no need to be dealing with any tingling or any discomfort on the skin this one is close to the skin’s own ph so it’s not going to be uncomfortable and it’s not going to cause redness or flushing or any kind of irritation that’s often
Associated with the other serums that i’ve been talking about so this one in particular magnesium ascorbyl phosphate is not absorbed into the skin as well as ascorbic acid it has to be converted into ascorbic acid within the skin like all other vitamin c derivatives but on the good news side is that we do know that it does convert so in vitro data shows that it
Does convert into ascorbic acid we just don’t know the rate or the percentage of the magnesium ascorbic phosphate that ends up converting into ascorbic acid we just we don’t know that yet there’s been no in vivo testing meaning in real human skin at this point there’s also no published data in terms of the photo protection or antioxidant abilities of magnesium as
Global phosphate but on the good side again we know that it can boost collagen production as effectively as ascorbic acid and i am so happy to report at this point that in real people on real living skin cells that magnesium ascorbal phosphate acts as a beautiful skin brightener so that’s where most of the science is in terms of this vitamin c derivative so it’s
A great option if you’re wanting something for evening out skin tone and to brighten up any dark spots whether it’s from sun damage or hyperpigmentation so this one is going to be a great option if you are if your main concern is dullness and discoloration uneven skin tone and you’re wanting something that’s going to hydrate and also help to plump up fine lines
And wrinkles then this is a great option the formula is an authorized stockist of all of these products and all of these brands we ship directly from melbourne australia all around the world we are so passionate about vitamin c we like to keep all of our units quite low so we get a nice high turnover a frequent turnover of freshly made products we make sure that
The brands that we work with um are as devoted to that as we are so you will find manufacture dates and period after openings and expiration dates across the board in terms of the products that i’ve spoken about i hope i’ve introduced you to some products that you’ve not heard of or you didn’t know the benefits of and i hope you found something that you’re excited
