Work together and one is hydralazine and the other is imdur let’s start by talking about the hydralazine hydralazine you’re going to be taking a 50 milligram tablet and unfortunately it’s going to have to be four times a day which is going to be a little bit challenging to remember but it’s going to make a big difference in terms of your your health so it’s
Probably going to be worth it for you so did you have some trouble with your heart this visit what symptoms were you having when you came in no i didn’t have any problems with my heart i was just having issues with my leg swelling up and then i had some trouble breathing oh well actually both of those things are symptoms of fluid backing up your heart’s not
Probably keeping up with it so actually you know it doesn’t seem like a heart problem but but it was and that’s why you know we’re gonna do the hydralazine because it makes it easier for your heart to pump and takes the workload off it and then it’ll make your heart last a lot longer as well has anybody told you about the possible side effects of the the new
Medicines yet no all right well um i see that you were on a medicine before that was that did some harm to your kidneys yes and so that’s why we’re switching to the hydralazine is because it it works similarly to the lysine probe that you were on before but it doesn’t have the effect on the kidneys a couple of new things it’s going to do though that you you need
To know about is that it can cause your heart to race a little bit and it actually can cause some leg swelling of its own the good news is you’re already on a water pill that helps with the fluid extra fluids and we can adjust that if we have to and you’re already on the carvatalol for your heart which helps slow your heart down and should prevent any of those
Heart racing problems so we really don’t anticipate any any big issues with with adding the hydralazine the only thing you need to do is probably check your weight you know weigh yourself every day to make sure that you’re not hanging on to too much water okay and do i need to decrease how much water i drink then actually your body can handle the water if you
Don’t take in too much salt with it do you watch your salt intake now uh yeah i watch it when i’m pouring it on my food has anybody ever told you that you should watch your salt no okay you might have heard about advertisements about blood pressure and people watching their salt it’s actually even more important for somebody who’s had the fluid retaining thing
Because when you take extra salt your body hangs on to water so if you could start watching the labels stop with the shaker your chances of fluid overload are going to go down dramatically okay so we’ve kind of talked about a lot of things already um what questions do you have so far um about what we’ve discussed well i don’t think i have any questions i think
