Relevant when determining ascorbic acid in fruit juices a rapid and reliable method is with the use of test strips a great advantage of this method is that it requires little to no sample preparation even though the sample is usually colored or turbid the only thing that you may need to do is to dilute your sample if the ascorbic acid concentration is really high
Or if you have a very dark sample you add a short discoloration step that will only take a couple minutes now if you really want quantitative and robust results the use of reflectometry is something that you want to consider for this you need the iq flex 20 instrument for quantitative test strip readout let’s take a look how that works so here we have the iqlex 20
Instrument i’ll switch it on the other thing that i need is the reflectoquand ascorbic acid test now that the instrument has powered up i can open the lid and this is where the test strip will go now let’s take a look what’s inside the test strip box we have the tube with the test strips and then there’s also a barcode that gives information on the test itself
And the batch specific calibration and there’s an instruction leaflet to read in the method and the batch specific calibration i put in the barcode at the side of the instrument and here you can already see that the countdown time for this test shows automatically now i take out a test strip from the tube i will do now is i will dip the strip into the sample
For two seconds and simultaneously press the start button like so one two now while the countdown is running i dry off excess liquid and insert the strip into the strip adapter so here we have the result and now we can measure the next sample if you want to learn more on how to test your samples with a reflector system you can access over a hundred different
