Over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers are medicines that can help relieve pain or lower a fever. Despite all of the different brand names, there are basically two major types of OTC pain relievers: acetaminophen (Tylenol or Excedrin); and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), a broad group that contains ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (Aleve), and aspirin.
Hey y’all well as you may or may not know i did an impressive little faceplant monday on the asphalt and and smacked my face into the hard asphalt and breathes it up and got a little strawberry i match in a big knot and a big brazen knot on my hip and all that good stuff so what this leads me to is what should you take for inflammation or pain or bruising or
Whatever is it safe because we all want to be healthy and we want to not take medicine if we don’t need it right but yeah there’s a point where sometimes you just hurt and you need to take something to help yourself get better and get well so i of course put ice on immediately or not ice i used to buy frozen cranberries that was something else i put in that post
Is those whole cranberries that i bought for christmas that i forgot about and didn’t use throw them in the freezer makes the best oz pack ever so first things first put that on and that’s gonna help us is gonna help reduce the swelling as long as you do that within the first 48 hours after 48 hours yeah if it makes it feel better go for it but it probably isn’t
Gonna do a lot for your swelling and and also just so you know don’t ask anything for more than 20 minutes because then you start doing tissue nerve damage so we don’t want that to happen 20 on 20 off that kind of thing but let’s break this down really quick and we’ve got aspirin we have acetaminophen which is tylenol and then we have nsaids which is non-steroidal
Anti-inflammatory drugs right and those are things like ibuprofen naproxen and aspirin actually those are going to the inside which is an advil aleve motrin or not much an aspirin those things are going to help with joint pain and inflammation when you take a pill though you’re gonna anton flame your whole body so if your muscle soreness is coming from exercise we
Know that our muscles inflame because we’re tearing them breaking them down so they can rebuild stronger and bigger and better which is a good thing so unless you’re incredibly miserably can’t get off the toilet sore from a workout i’d highly recommend not taking something for muscle pain if you can suck it up and it’s a good beneficial muscle pain from exercise
Just don’t take anything let your muscles heal naturally drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and lean proteins and give your muscles the nutrients it needs to be able to rebuild but just suck it up burke up but if you fell on your face tada like me and you’re swollen because of an injury then definitely you’re gonna want to take advil
Or aleve or aspirin for that tom and all is not going to do anything for your inflammation okay so if you’ve got a headache or fever or just pain in general tom and i will help with that but it’s not gonna do anything for inflammation and so for me that’s important information cuz i don’t wanna put stuff in my body that it’s not gonna benefit anyway right um other
Thing about tom if you have any kind of liver problems if your liver enzymes are high you have fatty liver you’re having any kind of liver disease whatsoever tylenol is not recommended for you because tylenol is processed in the liver another thing you should know um advil naproxen those things are the nsaids are processed in the kidneys now why is this important
And i went ahead and added this to the post the written post in here just for y’all’s benefit so you can review that if you’re an athlete and that could mean anything from marathoning to triathlon to cycling to swimming and if you’re a distance swimmer or distance runner of any sort and that can include to you like soccer and/or tennis when you’re out there in the
Heat for extended periods of time doing your sports okay and maybe that’s just on game day not necessarily practice but even in training if you’re training for a marathon or something you’re putting in significant hours and out there doing sweating and all of that kind of stuff you do not do not do not want to take nsaids before or during that training or race or
Competition okay because they’re processed in the kidney now what that means is that you’re already they constrict the arteries leading into the kidneys the dehydration that you’re going to suffer when you’re participating in endurance sports also does that so when you’re restricting all of that necessary hydration to the kidneys with already with your sport but
Then also by taking nsaids on top of it you’re really setting yourself up for renal problems and possibly renal failure so just don’t do it if you’re in that much pain and you can’t get through your workouts or your sport without taking something you need to reevaluate what it is you’re doing right your training program needs to change maybe you need to rest some
Maybe you need to rethink your sport or your activity right so hopefully guys this is information that is helpful beneficial and useful for you that will help keep you healthy stay healthy and give you direction in what you should take depending on what your ailment is so for things like muscle inflammation joint inflammation yes head aches and pain reliever the
Ibuprofen the naproxen and that just depends on you for me personally ibuprofen doesn’t work naproxen which is a leave works better for my husband ibuprofen works good and he doesn’t feel much really from a leave so if that’s gonna be a personal thing figure out which works for you best but that’s what you’re gonna need to take things just like headaches maybe
Fever that that’s going to be more of your tom in all situations so aspirin is also a good one if you can take that i don’t recommend giving it to kids or if you’re gonna cycle or if you’re like me you just fall on your face and you’re probably going to bleed you might not want to thin your blood with aspirin and then bleed to death in the middle of the street
Right so hopefully anyway that helps if you have questions or comments please leave them below and i look forward to hearing from y’all and i will talk to y’all see and have a great thursday
