Over this information so let’s jump into it so the first thing to discuss here be the mechanism of action or how this medication works though grandfacine is a centrally acting antihypertensive which stimulates the alpha-2 adrenergic receptor which reduces sympathetic nerve impulses from the vasomotor center to the heart and blood vessels that results in a slight
Reduction in the heart rate and peripheral vascular resistance in terms of indications or reasons we prescribe this medication to a patient while we may see this medication prescribed in the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or adhd with respect to contraindications or reasons we would not be able
To prescribe grandfacine well we just wouldn’t give this medication to a patient to add a hypersensitivity to glenfiscine or to any other components of the formulation now for an example of dosing with graphisine so the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure we may see if you’re using the immediate release formulation an initial dose of one milligram
Orally at bedtime we would then allow three to four weeks to achieve optimum anti-hypertensive effect and then may increase to two milligrams daily if needed it should be noted here that increased adverse effects are realized if the doses are over three milligrams per day as with all medications there are some side effects or adverse reactions that patients may
Experience while using glamfacine we’ll go over some of those here now up to fifteen percent of patients may experience orthostatic hypotension which is a sudden drop in blood pressure when going from a seated to a standing position seven to nineteen percent may experience abdominal pain and two to fifteen percent may experience constipation zero stoma or dry
Mouth may occur in five to fifty four percent of patients and one to sixteen percent of patients may experience dizziness up to twenty eight percent may experience a headache insomnia may happen four to fourteen percent of the time and some knowledge may happen eighteen to fifty seven percent of the time some patients may also experience sexual side effects or
