This one is gonna be a doozy hi welcome or welcome back to my channel my name is rudy and thank you so much for being here in today’s video we’re covering a topic that i felt was important to cover not only because i feel like it’s a piece of the acne journey that it’s lacking on youtube but it’s a self-reminder that i need right now because of the current situation
I’m in with my skin so we’re going to be talking about how to get through a acne purge whether it’s related to tretinoin which i know a lot of you are probably here because you’re on that medication which i am too or if it’s from another acne medication like accutane or you know switching up using benzoyl peroxide there’s a lot of different reasons as to why
Your skin may decide to purge i understand it’s a very confusing time in your skincare journey and it’s a time in which you feel emotionally drained and that is the piece i want to cover today we are also going to talk about general skin care tips at the end but i feel like the piece that is always missing in the videos that i’ve seen on getting through the purge
Or you know the tretinoin retin-a experience is there’s a huge emotional aspect to this journey that i feel is always missing in these videos if you have either had acne your whole life or if you developed adult acne which is sort of a mix of what i went through i think that this video was going to be helpful for you and understanding that you can get through

Let’s just go ahead and get into it and start talking about some of these tips so as i mentioned the first half of this video we’re going to cover you know how to stay emotionally stable or really just above water while you’re going through your purge i am currently experiencing an acneic issue right now and i’m trying to figure it out you may not be able to see
Well on camera because i am wearing makeup right now but as i’m figuring it out i’m noticing that i’m starting to follow these unhealthy tendencies that i was during my initial purge with tretinoin and part of the reason why i’m making this video is so that i can practice what i preach and remember that these tips are important while going through you know a purge
Or just having some acne so the first thing i want to talk about is the fact that to be completely honest your friends and family are probably not going to understand the level of you know emotion and the way that this is affecting your mental health and also just the way that you feel about your self-confidence unless you know someone in your life who’s going
Through the same experience as you which i have one friend here her name is lane and you know we’re tretinoin buddies we were friends before that but it’s it’s helpful to have someone but most of the time you’re probably gonna have friends and family who don’t know what the medication is that you’re on or don’t understand you know what it’s doing to your skin or
To your mental health so you really can’t expect them to to understand because they simply can’t put themselves in your position especially when it comes to you know the health of your skin and on top of that i think you know the main point of this tip is that 99.9 of the people in your life or online are not noticing the acne literally half as much as you are
We are so hyper aware of our skin when we’re going through you know an acne purge or when we’re dealing with skin issues in our life i know that i am absolutely guilty of constantly checking my face which is something we’ll talk about in a couple minutes here but if i’ve learned anything from my experience especially with my husband there had been days where i
Would feel incredibly depressed and i felt incredibly ugly and like i didn’t want to be seen and i swear to you he was like i have no idea what you’re talking about i can barely see anything i see one or two zits and i sat and thought to myself you know what when i see someone with acne i’m not staring at their acne i’m looking at them as a person and that may be
Different for you but generally people are not focusing on your skin as much as you are so try try to think of that while you’re interacting with people and realize oh okay this person is talking to me they’re not talking to my forehead pimples my jawline acne they’re talking to me as a human the next thing i want to talk about as i just prefaced is understanding
How easy and how fast you can become obsessed with checking your skin i remember that i would put on my tretinoin and in the morning i would run to the mirror and look at my forehead and be like oh my gosh do i sell pimples are they gone when we all know that most of these acne medications or all of them are not an overnight cure and it wouldn’t make sense for
Them to just go away overnight but it was like this trigger thing that i like i had to check it because i was so desperate to have better skin on top of that i was taking photos of my skin every single day which is really not a good idea because as i mentioned in my tretinoin results and tips video so i do have an entire video on my results and you know general
Tips if you’re interested i can link that up above i did mention that you know using an app like chloe in which you can list you know your pictures over time and they’re not living in your photo stream is a good idea and i do believe that but i think the the goal here would not be taking daily photos but instead weekly photos when you take pictures of your skin
Every single day you’re really not able to track your progress because you’re trying to find minute differences when the goal is a long-term solution right so we want to check from week to week or even month to month on our updates and taking daily photos at least in my experience has only made me feel more shitty about the situation and realizing that this was
Going to be a long haul so just know that up front that this is going to take some time it’s going to take some dedication and the constant checking in and the constant photo taking i promise you it only makes things worse just absolutely the best thing i can tell you is to try your best to live in the moment that you’re in because i know it’s easy to live inside
Your head because you are constantly thinking about your skin it is totally understandable but you’re wasting your life around you that you could be living instead of waiting for your skin to get better live your life like your skin is good live your life as if you have the confidence to go out and show people your skin you don’t want to waste you know months of
Your life you know outside of already wasting them in quarantine worrying about your skin the next thing i want to talk about is confidence with your acne and that is something that comes with time but the main point i want to give to you here is that i think it’s important for us to do the things that we like to do including wearing makeup jewelry doing our hair
You know whatever it may be having nice fashion um you know taking pampering yourself it’s important to do those things consistently while you’re wearing your tretinoin or while you’re going through acne journey because those are the things that are going to make you feel good when you feel the worst about yourself so for me that’s makeup i love makeup i always
Have which of course is difficult when you have acne prone skin and when you’re going through a journey with an acne medication so i’ve taken years to find the right products that work well with my skin and i’ll link a video up above of the best makeup that i use during my tretinoin journey of just good makeup for oily and acne prone skin that didn’t cause me any
Issues but i would still put on makeup when i would go to work i would still put on my mascara i would still do a routine that was you know safe for my skin because i knew in the end that that was going to make me feel better about the fact that i was insecure about my acne do the things that make you happy and wear the things that make you happy because your
Skin is a very small part of who you are as a whole a very small part acne is a very small part of your life when you look at the big picture even though sometimes it feels like it’s taking over don’t let it don’t let it take over do the things that make you happy and like i said live your life as if you don’t have acne the last tip that i want to give on you
Know your emotional aspect of going through the purge would be to join the tretinoin group on reddit that group has helped me immensely throughout my journey there are tons and tons thousands of people who have gone through an experience with tretinoin or with acne purging and can give you advice they’ll answer you on skin care questions and you can see other
People’s progress so that you don’t feel you know deter to stop tretinoin because like i said it is a long-term medication so being able to interact with people who understand truly what you’re going through is such a i mean it’s a blessing honestly so like i said earlier your friends and family are probably not going to understand what you’re going through so
To have a built-in group of people who are rooting for you and who understand what you’re going through it’s invaluable and i highly recommend joining they have been so amazing and i usually post my videos in that group as well if you’re interested in joining i will leave the link down below now i want to cover a few quick tips on getting through the purge as
Far as your skincare goes and the actual things that you’re doing in your routine so the first thing i would say and that i say to most people in my comments is to simplify your routine even if you have things that you like to use and you want to incorporate them down the road honestly i would hop using them and just stick with a very simple routine when you
Start just so that if you experience any irritation when you first start up you can diminish that from keeping you know using salicylic acids or any exfoliants or you know even in essence that you would think may just be hydrating there could be some irritation there when you start so my suggestion is just to simplify as much as you can when you start and then
Once your skin gets used to tretinoin you can begin to add those things in again down the road which is what i’ve done and i can link my evening skincare routine above where i’m using tretinoin i show you how i use my polish choice bha alongside of that and some of the other serums i’ve built in but to start you really just want to keep it very simple another tip
Would be to stay away from getting facials or going into an esthetician um you know not everyone will agree with this point and i totally understand that but i think that when you go to a spa or you’re going to get a facial done 99 of the time normal skin people can get a facial and feel good about it but if you have very sensitive very acneic skin or you’re
On tretinoin your skin is already highly sensitive to the things that are being put on it and so someone using extraction tools fragrance products and possibly you know chemical peels on your skin while you’re going through this is only going to make things worse and harder for you to get through this purge where your skin is already experiencing a lot so i just
Recommend staying away from getting facials especially at places that you know they’re going to use not acne safe products with fragrance in them another very very important tip which i’ve talked about in a lot of other videos is using spf while you’re going through the purge it is really really important that you use sbf it’s important that you use spf all the
Time but during the purge your skin is incredibly photosensitive and when it gets sun during a time where it’s already irritated it’s going to continue to purge until it’s protected so i think that one of the reasons my purge lasted as long as it did and that i was experiencing another purge months down the road is that i was not using spf out of fear that it
Would cause more oil and more acne when actually not using spf is the reason that i was continuing to get acne and the last tip that i want to give you is simply to keep going i know exactly how you feel especially in times where you know i’m sitting on the couch crying thinking no one understands me and that it will never get better and six months down the road
I had absolutely crystal clear skin does it last forever no i’m going through an acne moment right now and i think that if you have acne how many times have i said acne in this video you understand that it’s a struggle that we’ll probably deal with for the rest of our lives it’s not just something that goes away it’s it’s a situation that i will constantly be
In a relationship with basically and you have to learn to accept that because you will find the right things to help you but it’s just a part of who we are so keep going things will get better and when they get worse come back to this video watch these tips on how to be emotionally stable during your purge and you’ll do it again and we’ll continue to do it again
