subject : Pharmaceutical Chemistry II
Good afternoon one and all today we will see the experiment of pharmaceutical chemistry 2 in that experiment number 18 is there so aim of the experiment is to perform and report identification tests on the given sample of ampicillin trihydrate this is a penicillin antibiotic as per indian pharmacopoeia we require here same the glass tube glassware’s test tube
Capillary tills tube the structure of ampicillin trihydrate you know the steps involved in identification so the first we have to perform the solubility then we shifted to identification test as per indian pharmacopoeia then we will see it either it complies or not complies the test so see the drug first see the description of drug that is ampicillin it is a
Yellowish white micro crystalline powder which is odourless and now see the solubility behavior in different solvent like water alcohol fixed oil chloroform ether dilute acid dilute alkali hydroxide now see see the solubility behavior in water when we add water in amphicillin see the solubility it is slightly soluble in water see the solubility in alcohol it is a
C is practically insulable in alcohol see now see the solubility in chloroform and ether we take both tests to chloroform one we added chloroform in another we added ether in both it is insoluble see solubility in fixed oil we added fixed oil in ampicillin it is insoluble in fixed oil also see the solubility in dilute acids that is we take dilute hydrochloric
Acid we take sample and dilute hydrochloric acid see it is soluble in diet hydrochloric acid now see the solubility in uh dilute noise solution see again it is again soluble in dilute naoh solution see the test a for ampicillin trihydrate we have to take 0.1 ml 0.1 percent weight by volume solution of neem hadrin on filter paper we have to dry it for 195 degree
Celsius so so we dried this filter paper at 105 degree celsius and then we have to add point 1 ml point one percent weight by volume solution of our drug then we have to heat it for five minutes at 195 degree celsius again after heating we get this reddish boiler violet color now see the test be we have to take 10 milligram drug in 1ml water and then we have to
Add 2 ml mixture of potassium cubed alternate solution see we get an magenta violet color which is immediately produced after adding this potassium-cubery direct solution in ampicillin trihydrate solution so we observe test a and test b as per given in indian pharmacopoeia for ampicillin trihydrate so both that con both test complies so the given sample of drug
Is ampicillin prior hydrate as both tests test a and b is complies
