Rolling right along with tip number one i wanted to give a disclaimer on this so if you have a child who is three months or under or your child has a fever of 102 or higher you’re going to want to talk to your pediatrician right away so this video is not going to be for you so that is your disclaimer otherwise let’s get into tip number one rolling right along for
Tip number one so if you have an infant up to a four-year-old that’s considered a baby so this is who i’m talking to for those of you out there so the first thing you want to do is grab a bottle of nasal saline and also a nasal bowl so for the really young ones out there you just want to lay them on their backs and then what you’re going to do is put two to three
Drops of the nasal saline into each nostril so after you do that it’s really going to kind of thin the mucus out so that all that thick stuff you’re going to be able to get out of there so they can breathe a little more easily so then you’re just going to take the suction bulb and you’re going to suck that out of there so they can breathe now this is going to be
Easiest for the younger ones um if they’re two or older they might be able to blow their nose with a kleenex so in that case you can just have them blow that all out get it out of their nose so they’re a lot less congested tip number two is going to be to keep your baby very well hydrated so if your baby is breastfed or formula fed you want to make sure that they
Are feeding as often as possible as long as the pediatrician has not told you otherwise so you want to make sure they’re staying really hydrated keeping up on the feedings usually when they are breastfeeding when they’re really stuffed up they usually do more frequent feedings and they do them for less duration just because it’s a little harder to do with all that
Congestion in the nose so again formula fed and breastfed make sure they are taking in as much liquid as possible feeding whenever they want to to keep them from getting dehydrated and then when you get into the slightly older baby so when they’re one year and older make sure that they are staying up on their water and their milk again just making sure they are
Not getting dehydrated when they are super congested and sick and tip number three is we want to treat any kind of fever your baby has so a fever is considered a temperature that is above 100.4 degrees fahrenheit now you do need to actually be testing with a thermometer for this you can’t really test based on their forehead you can’t really tell if they’re hot you
Have to test their actual temperature now if they do have a fever then you can go ahead and treat them with tylenol generic name is acetaminophen or advil generic name is ibuprofen now ibuprofen they have to be six months or older tylenol there is no age restriction on that although i did say if the baby is younger than three months and they have a fever you need
To call the pediatrician and furthermore if their temperature is above 102 degrees fahrenheit that is another instance where you need to contact your pediatrician otherwise the dosing on these fever reducers is on the back of the box based on weight now if your baby is a lot younger and they don’t have the dosing on there you can definitely contact your local
Pharmacist and they can give you the dose based on the baby’s weight all right to further drive that one point across i wanted to double check comment in the section below if you remember which temperature level is too high and you need to contact the pediatrician tip number four so if your baby is one year or older you can give them honey now honey is a really
Great product to use right before bed it’s called a demulcent and so what that means is it coats a throat and it prevents irritation and decreases inflammation so this is really perfect right before your brady goes to sleep because then hopefully they’re not up all night coughing kind of ease that so they can get some sleep which is super important when they’re
Sick now if they’re one year or older that’s when you can give honey and you can give them a half a teaspoon before they go to bed that should do the trick and help them get a good night’s sleep and also ease the irritation in their throat and our fifth and final tip so you want to use a cold humidifier in your baby’s room i repeat it should be a cold humidifier
In the room so this is really perfect for kind of keeping the air nice and moist it makes it so that the nasal passages are kind of soothed it keeps everything nice and loose so that mucus that’s in their lungs can come up and get out so that is my fifth and final tip for you guys and here’s the last thing i wanted to point out to you guys so the american academy
Of pediatrics does not recommend any coffin cold medications for kids under the age of six so since today we are covering babies so that means anywhere from a newborn all the way up to four years old we are not going to use any cough and cold medications other than the anti-fever medications the tylenol and the advil so make sure you guys stay tuned for next week’s
