How to use the Seretide Diskus inhaler or other brands using the same Diskus device. This type of inhaler is used in asthma and COPD and is very common.
Welcome to another video this time we’ll be discussing about the disqus inhaler which is this one you may have seen this most commonly used with sarah tight so this is one of the common inhalers used for asthma or copd it’s taken twice daily it contains bronchodilator and a corticosteroid inside so basically one medication opens up your airways the other one lowers
The inflammation in the airways so just as with other devices that contain a corticosteroid so read the package leaflet before you take these things it’s important to take some water rinse gargle and spit after you use it okay so don’t forget that step it’s really important to prevent any fungal infection in your throat basically and other issues related to the
Corticosteroid depositing itself where it should the goal is to get this inside your lungs and nowhere else okay so the sarah tart or the discus device is it’s quite easy to use many people who have used this for a long time swear by it they find it quite comfortable but it does take a little bit of getting used to first thing to mention is that it is a dry powder
Inhaler so inside it contains a little bit of a powder so what or a dust okay that dust in order to get it moving from the inhaler and into your lungs you have to inhale quite forcefully okay so this is one third one of these inhales where you really need to take a strong breath in when you’re ready to take it it’s taken twice a day so it’s a regular treatment
Alright looking at it it looks like a disc it’s got the dose counter here this one for example has 40 doses later left this is a demo device and how do you use it basically so basically it has this place where you put your thumb and then you twist it open it clicks and this exposes the mouthpiece so this one is here and this little lever on the side which you will
Press in order to activate the inhaler so if i close it now right so if i close it now i i didn’t lose it those because i didn’t press the vapor so i’ll open it up again right and i see this little lever here so when i’m ready to take my my inhaler i need to press this lever down and it clicked again so this sort of clicked reassures you that you’re doing the right
Thing and now this inhaler is ready to use so how do you do you use it basically you need to empty your lungs of air put this in your mouth and inhale forcefully deeply and hold your breath for about 10 seconds so i will demonstrate taking the air out and slowly release the air so basically if you can hold your breath for a bit longer it’s said to help with this
Little power there’s the positing itself where it shouldn’t amongst so breathing out too quickly means that the powder is going out we see you’re inhaling it and taking it out you need to leave a bit of time for it to settle down where it needs to go and once you’re done basically so that was it you just have to just close this down and you just twist it closed
Up and you can see maybe that the lever has gone down back to its original position and that’s it so if i look at the counter now you will see that it’s showing 39 right so it reassures me that i’ve taken my dose so this is it don’t forget after you’ve taken it gargle and spit some water to get rid of the powder that may have been left in your throat so just for
Reinforcing the message i’ll just do this again all right so twist i see the lever i press it down clicks again take the air out of my lungs slowly release so and after i’m done i close so remember forceful breath okay with the air out for some breath in until you can’t take anymore in be patient hold your breath let it settle and then slowly exhale and that’s it
